Bentley Systems Introduces iTwin Capture Engine & iTwin Capture WorkSuite: A New Era for Reality Modeling

Bentley systems are ushering in the new generation of reality modeling with the migration from their Reality Modeling WorkSuite to the launch of two new offerings: iTwin Capture Engine and iTwin Capture WorkSuite.

These changes represent an evolution in Bentley’s approach to processing, managing, and analyzing reality data. These new products are designed to deliver more flexibility, scalability, and value for infrastructure professionals.

Effective March 2026, Bentley has begun to transition users and partners to this new product suite, consolidating legacy tools and introducing a clearer, more powerful workflow for reality data capture and analysis.

What’s Changing: Reality Modeling WorkSuite to iTwin Capture

As part of this transition, Bentley is retiring several legacy reality modeling products and repackaging them into new offerings under the iTwin Capture brand.

Key Milestones in the transition:

March 3, 2026

Bentley consolidated iTwin Capture Modeler Desktop and iTwin Capture Modeler Center into a single new product: iTwin Capture Engine

March 12, 2026

iTwin Capture Engine and iTwin Capture WorkSuite became available on Bentley’s eStore and Reality Modeling WorkSuite subscriptions began the transition to the iTwin Capture product line.

This shift simplifies Bentley’s reality modeling offering and aligns it more closely with modern infrastructure workflows and the broader Bentley iTwin ecosystem.

Introducing: iTwin Capture Engine

iTwin Capture Engine is Bentley’s new next-generation, on-premises reality modeling processing engine. It’s designed to transform raw reality data, such as photographs, lidar point clouds, or mixed-sensor datasets, into accurate, high-fidelity, and engineering-ready digital deliverables.

With iTwin Capture Engine, users can produce:

  • Reality meshes
  • Gaussian splats
  • Point clouds
  • Orthophotos
  • Digital Elevation Models (DEMs)

These outputs form the foundation for precise digital representations of real-world assets and environments, supporting design, construction, and operational workflows across infrastructure projects.

Licensing and Packaging Changes

iTwin Capture Engine replaces the legacy iTwin Capture Modeler and Modeler Center products through the following consolidation and migration:

  • Existing iTwin Capture Modeler/Center entitlements are included with iTwin Capture Engine, ensuring a seamless migration
  • Users can continue and complete projects that depend on legacy products while transitioning to the new engine
  • Existing contracts for legacy products will be migrated automatically and billed under the new product at renewal

iTwin Capture Modeler Flex

To support the new architecture, Bentley has also introduced iTwin Capture Modeler Flex, a free companion product.

iTwin Capture Modeler Flex allows users to:

  • Run iTwin Capture Engine locally
  • Submit reality data processing jobs to the iTwin Capture Cloud

As it is free to download and use, Modeler Flex lowers the barrier to entry while enabling hybrid on-premises and cloud-based reality modeling workflows.

Introducing: iTwin Capture WorkSuite

For users seeking a complete, end-to-end solution, Bentley has launched the iTwin Capture WorkSuite.

iTwin Capture WorkSuite combines:

  • iTwin Capture Engine
  • iTwin Capture Manage & Extract
  • Descartes

Into a single, integrated, on-premises workflow.

A Unified Reality Data Workflow

iTwin Capture WorkSuite is built for infrastructure professionals who need more than just processing power. It supports the full lifecycle of reality data by enabling teams to:

  • Model reality data with high accuracy
  • Manage and organize large reality datasets
  • Analyze and extract insights from point clouds and meshes
  • Collaborate more efficiently across teams and disciplines

By unifying these capabilities, iTwin capture WorkSuite helps organizations move from raw data to actionable insights, and support better decision making across planning, design, construction, and operations.

What This Means for Existing Users

Bentley has structured this transition to minimize disruption for existing users.

Active Virtuoso subscriptions up for renewal will renew based on the following mapping structure:

  • Reality Modeling WorkSuite > iTwin Capture Engine
  • Reality Modeling WorkSuite (with Descartes) > iTwin Capture WorkSuite
  • iTwin Capture, Manage & Extract > iTwin Capture WorkSuite

While these transitions happen both iTwin Capture Engine and iTwin Capture WorkSuite are available for sale.

The launch of these new offerings marks an important step in Bentley’s reality modeling strategy. By consolidating legacy tools, introducing new licensing options, and delivering more integrated workflows, Bentley software offerings are well positioned to support the growing demand for accurate, scalable and intelligent reality data across infrastructure projects.

The Essential OpenBuildings Designer Guide: Everything You Need to Know

Building projects rarely move forward on a single track. Architects, structural engineers, and mechanical and electrical teams are all working on the same building at the same time, and their decisions constantly affect one another. A structural change shifts ceiling heights, a mechanical routing decision affects the architectural layout, and so-on. Without a shared, information-rich […]

A Seat at the Table: How One Live Model is Changing Who Builds Infrastructure

Ask anyone who has spent a career in infrastructure design where projects go wrong, and the answer is rarely the engineering itself. It is the handoffs. Speed Wins: Why Formal OpenRoads Designer Training Improves Productivity

Everyone believes on-the-job training is faster: skipping the classroom, getting people doing real work, and they’re productive immediately. The reality is much messier.
