Four Years of CAD Journey

A note from our CEO

Earlier this month, on July 17, CAD Journey marked four years in business. Four years, three offices, and more than 800 clients later, it has gone fast and it has been quite the ride.

CAD Journey started in 2022 with a simple idea: engineering teams get the most out of great software when there is a partner alongside them who understands the work itself. Not just the licensing, but the projects, the workflows, and the deadlines behind them. We believed that if we combined the software with local expertise, responsiveness, and a long-term view of every relationship, we could add real value to the firms we serve. That idea became the foundation for everything that followed.

Four years on, it has grown into something far bigger than any of us imagined at the start.

Today CAD Journey supports more than 800 clients across North America. They are civil and transportation consultancies, structural and geotechnical firms, water and rail engineers, and the contractors and consultants delivering some of the largest infrastructure programs on the continent. These are the teams designing the roads, bridges, and networks we all rely on, and playing even a small part in that work is genuinely the best part of what we do.

Along the way we opened offices in the UK and Ireland, turning a North American business into a transatlantic one and letting us support engineering teams on both sides of the pond with the same approach. And in the past year we launched our Training & Services division, born from a pattern we kept hearing from clients: the software is only half the story, and the teams who invest in mastering it get dramatically more from it. Helping engineers build real skills in tools like OpenRoads Designer, MicroStation, and ProjectWise, through training delivered by people who use them every day, has quickly become one of the most rewarding parts of the business.

None of this happened alone. A genuine thank you to Bentley Systems, whose partnership has been paramount to our success from day one. The collaboration, openness, and support from the Bentley team is what lets a channel partner like us build something meaningful, and being named a Bentley Partner of the Year in 2025 was a proud moment for everyone here.

The biggest thank you goes to two groups. First, our clients, many of whom took a chance on a brand-new company four years ago and have grown with us ever since. Your trust is the reason we exist. And second, the CAD Journey team. We have invested in people every single year, adding specialists, trainers, and support so we can keep bringing more value to the firms we serve, and this company is what it is because of the group of people who care about doing it properly.

Four years in, we are growing, we are hiring, and we are more excited about what comes next than we were on day one. Here’s to the engineers, and to the next chapter.

The Essential OpenBuildings Designer Guide: Everything You Need to Know

Building projects rarely move forward on a single track. Architects, structural engineers, and mechanical and electrical teams are all working on the same building at the same time, and their decisions constantly affect one another. A structural change shifts ceiling heights, a mechanical routing decision affects the architectural layout, and so-on. Without a shared, information-rich […]

What is ProjectWise? A Guide to the My ProjectWise Bundle

If you work in engineering, you’ve probably heard the name ProjectWise, most likely because a Prime consultant or Department of Transportation asked your team to use it. For many smaller firms, though, the question of what it does, whether they need to host their own environment, and what it takes to get one running, remains […]

A Seat at the Table: How One Live Model is Changing Who Builds Infrastructure

Ask anyone who has spent a career in infrastructure design where projects go wrong, and the answer is rarely the engineering itself. It is the handoffs. The roadway team passes files to the bridge team. The bridge team passes files to drainage. Reviewers receive plan sets weeks later. Every transfer is a chance for versions […]

Speed Wins: Why Formal OpenRoads Designer Training Improves Productivity

Everyone believes on-the-job training is faster: skipping the classroom, getting people doing real work, and they’re productive immediately. The reality is much messier. OJT gets new hires contributing quickly, but “contributing” and “competence” are very different things. There’s a ramp-up period that can stretch on indefinitely, where people are busy doing work but doing it […]

Bentley Usage Reports Explained & How they Affect Your Business

Most Bentley users with an active SELECT subscription have access to Bentley usage reports, but the majority have never looked at one. That’s understandable and it’s not always obvious what you’re supposed to do with the data. If your organization recently received an unexpected term license charge, your usage data is one of the most […]

If your firm is running MicroStation V8i with InRoads or Geopak, the Windows 10 end-of-life deadline isn’t just an IT problem, it’s a design software problem. Upgrading the OS and upgrading your road design platform aren’t two separate decisions. They’re one and the same. Microsoft ended support for Windows 10 on October 14, 2025. No […]
