Bentley Announces gINT Licensing Changes: What Users Need to Know

For many years, gINT has been a trusted solution for ground investigation reporting, relied on by geotechnical professionals around the world. gINT was built on legacy software, restricting the capacity to maintain compatibility and introduce new capabilities. Because of this, Bentley has announced important updates to the availability of gINT and is encouraging users to begin transitioning to OpenGround, the cloud‑based successor to both gINT and HoleBASE.

Below is a summary of the key changes and what they mean for current and future users.

Key Licensing Change Effective January 1, 2026

Starting January 1, 2026, Bentley has updated the purchasing options for gINT:

  • New SELECT Perpetual licenses and Virtuoso subscriptions for gINT are now limited to existing gINT users only.
  • gINT is no longer available for new purchase through Bentley or channel partners
  • Existing subscribers will continue to auto‑renew, and current users may still purchase additional seats if needed.

These changes reflect Bentley’s long‑term plan to retire gINT and support users in migrating to the modern OpenGround platform.

Why Move to OpenGround?

OpenGround is designed as the next generation geotechnical data management solution. It offers:

  • A scalable, cloud-based environment
  • Improved data security
  • Seamless integration with Bentley’s design, modeling, and analysis tools
  • Better collaboration across teams and disciplines

For organizations looking to modernize workflows, OpenGround provides significant long-term benefits beyond what the legacy gINT platform can support.

Incentives for Migrating to OpenGround

To support users during this transition, Bentley has introduced several programs:

  1. gINT & HoleBASE Trade‑In Discounts

Bentley is offering a one time trade-in discount for organizations with gINT or HoleBASE perpetual licenses under active SELECT:

  • One-time discount on OpenGround
  • Discounts apply to the annual subscription of OpenGround.
  • Trade-ins are only available for licenses under SELECT and not enrolled in Bentley’s E365 program.
  • Trade-ins can only be applied with an OpenGround Cloud Services Tier (OpenGround i5/i3)
  1. Companion gINT Licenses at No Charge

To ensure a smooth migration without double paying‑paying:

  • Users transitioning to OpenGround can receive gINT companion licenses at no cost during their migration period.
  • This allows teams to continue using gINT while OpenGround is being implemented.

Where to Learn More

Bentley provides additional resources to support users as they plan their transition:

What This Means for You

If your organization already uses gINT, you may continue renewing and adding seats as needed. However, Bentley is signaling that OpenGround is the future of geotechnical data management. Taking advantage of the available trade in and migration incentives can reduce costs and set your team up for long‑term success with a modern, cloud‑ready platform.

A Seat at the Table: How One Live Model is Changing Who Builds Infrastructure

Ask anyone who has spent a career in infrastructure design where projects go wrong, and the answer is rarely the engineering itself. It is the handoffs. Speed Wins: Why Formal OpenRoads Designer Training Improves Productivity

Everyone believes on-the-job training is faster: skipping the classroom, getting people doing real work, and they’re productive immediately. The reality is much messier. There’s a ramp-up period that can stretch on indefinitely, where people are busy doing work but doing it […]
